Several years ago, I made my son curtains for his bedroom. I neglected to measure properly ... and I blogged it about that here. I eventually did get the curtains right, but I never did line them, so they are not ideal for the bedroom of a teen that likes to sleep in. See? A lot of light seeps through. Yes, his bed is unmade. No need to discuss it. Anyhoo,I have been wanting to buy some fabric and line the curtains to make it darker in the morning. I have been debating what kind of a "look" I should go for, and should I make a border and yada yada. But I never had the time to even shop for the fabric, let alone design anything. Then I stopped in at Christmas Tree Shops, (for something else, which they didn't have) and in the clearance bin I found some navy curtain panels. They were $3.99 each. You can't even buy fabric off the bolt for that, and the quality was good, so I bought them. Here's where the shortcut comes in. Rather than actually sew the lining to the curtains, I realized that the panels came with tab tops that could be threaded through the curtain rod, alternating with the rings of the curtains. Voila! And the way I did it, the lining actually looks like it's bordering the curtain, giving it a lovely layered look. If I do say so myself.
I did have to hem the linings to be the right length, hence the other kind of "short cut." Ha ha. I am thrilled about this!! Move over, Joanna Gaines! Best of all, my son said "I like them."
